Studies on stimulus equivalence suggest that the stimulus nature in a conditional discrimination can facilitate its acquisition. When the sample stimulus is an auditory one and the comparison stimuli are visual, learning is faster than when all stimuli are visual. The purposes of the present work was to investigate the role of the familiarity of the stimuli on the emergency of equivalence in individuals bearing both hearing and mental deficiencies.
