Development of a robust, flexible, and computationally inexpensive multi-phase CFD model to investigate shock/deformation wave propagation through porous media.
Modeling Approach: The model is comprised of a system of hyperbolic partial differential equations representing mass, momentum and energy balance laws in each phase.
Numerical Technique: The foundation of the numerical scheme used in this work is a conservative, finite-volume, central scheme, that is total variation diminishing (TVD).
Research Findings: Accurately predicted the mechanism of Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition (DDT), Shock-to-Detonation Transition (SDT), Retonation, and Spontaneous Combustion waves in Granular HMX.--
