Experiences:

Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant 08/2014 - current
University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, IL United States
1. Working as teaching assistant for Bio-Optics (BioE 470-Fall 2016), Senior Design II (Bio 397-Spring 2017) and Microbiology laboratory (BioS 351-Fall 2017 & Spring 2018). 2. Working as research assistant to pursue PhD thesis projects and other biomaterials based research projects.
Main duties as a TA are (but not limited to): a. Teaching course (BioS 351) b. Grading assignments, exams and presentations (all courses) c. Class management (BioS 351) d. Exam invigilation (BioE 470, BioS 351). Primary concepts in TA courses include (but not limited to): a. Engineering project design and management, Product requirement definition (PRD), standard operating procedure (SOP), protocol writing and test results reporting (BioE 397) b. Nano biosensors and spectroscopy (BioE 470) c. Bacterial culture and aseptic techniques (BioS 351). Main duties as a RA are (but not limited to): a. Design and conduct experiments b. Analyse data c. Write papers and publish them d. Project management and troubleshooting e. Lab chemical hygiene maintenance f. Equipment operation (relevant to research) g. Chemical inventory maintenance h. Student mentoring. Research projects: a. Spectral characterization of cytokines / biomarker proteins and aptamers using Raman spectroscopy / SERS: Presently working on the analysis of the Raman and SERS spectra of biomarker proteins associated to inflammatory diseases like sepsis and diabetes along other biomolecules of interest (nucleic acid aptamers etc.). b. Design and characterization of optical aptasensor for the detection of biomarkers for diabetes mellitus: Synthesized an aptamer based optical sensor for the detection of glycated albumin with a limit of detection of 1nM. This sensor can be potentially used for the monitoring of diabetes mellitus. c. DNA aptamer based nanoconstructs for the detection of biomarker proteins for sepsis: Presently working on designing DNA aptamer based nanobiosensors that can detect blood cytokines like Human C-Reactive protein, Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha for the accurate diagnosis of sepsis. d. Self-setting calcium phosphate cements with tunable antibiotic release rates for advanced antimicrobial applications: Designed and performed experiments on synthesizing and characterizing nanoparticulate bone cements that show sustained release of antibiotics such as vancomycin and ciprofloxacin and has potential therapeutic application in osteomyelitis.--
Research Scholar 08/2012 - 06/2014
Jadavpur University, Kolkata, West Bengal India
Duties mainly included working on research projects and publishing the findings in conferences or journals.
Worked on the following projects: 1. Synthesis and Characterization of Polyvinyl Alcohol based Composites for Tissue Engineering: Conducted study on the formation of Hydroxyapatite (HAP)-Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Gelatin-PVA composite scaffolds for tissue regeneration and drug delivery applications. 2. Non-Invasive Transdermal Drug Delivery System by the method of Iontophoresis: Studied the characteristics of crosslinked PVA hydrogels for the transdermal delivery of doxycycline, a mild antibiotic, in the presence of electrical current and also investigated the drug eluting capacity of hydrogel scaffolds and their applicability in transdermal delivery of antibiotics and topical medicines for skin tissue engineering. This project grant was awarded by the Institution of Engineers, India under the R&D grant in aid scheme and was pursued under the supervision of Prof. D. N. Tibarewala, Jadavpur University, India. 3. Automatic Recognition Systems using Kinect Sensor: Assisted in designing algorithms for gesture, posture and video recognition of Indian Classical Dance.--
