With locations spreading like the flu, Medicine Shoppe International (MSI) is the nation's largest independent retail pharmacy franchisor. A subsidiary of Cardinal Health since 1995, MSI has 900-plus locations throughout the US. Internationally, it has more than 400 stores in six countries. It also runs pharmacies in Food Lion and Kash n' Karry Food supermarkets. In 2003 MSI acquired Iowa-based Medicap Pharmacies, with about 180 pharmacies in 34 states.
