This research is about semi-permeable membranes technologies for desalination and gas separation. In the one-year training, our team published one academic paper based on this work, and I was working on two projects about anti-fouling and acid-resistance, respectively.
Based on this research work, I was selected as one of the 12 undergraduates in the US to receive the undergraduate traveling award from NAMS.
~ Modification of the Multi-layered Semi-Permeable Membranes for Gas Separation
• Found a better catalyzing ratio between PDMS and toluene for the gutter layer
• Improved the membrane’s permeability and selectivity for carbon dioxide and nitrogen
• Found a better synthesizing ratio between PEGDA and PEGMEA for the selective layer
• Increased the membrane’s permeability and selectivity for carbon dioxide and hydrogen
~ Design of the Highly Efficient Semi-Permeable r-GO Membranes for Desalination
• Modified a surface material for improving the rejection rate and permeation
• Measured and calculated the permeation and the rejection rate of the r-GO membranes
• Explored a robust and pragmatic way of enhancing the chloride resistance
• Explored a better polymer co-coating material with polydopamine for increasing the--
